Vicki King began her 32-year career with the Houston Police Department, most recently assigned as Chief of Detectives. In this assignment, Assistant Chief King formed the Cold Case Murder Squad, Houston Men Against Family Violence, Cash for Crooks, and Gang Murder Squad. Under her command, UCR murder clearances increased 32% in 2008. In 2011, Chief King retired from HPD to serve as an emissary to the Saudi Royal family and Chief of Police for the City of La Marque. Chief King is currently Assistant Chief of Police at University of Texas Police at Houston, where she works with multidisciplinary teams of officers, mental health officials, Human Resource personnel, doctors, attorneys, and councilors to identify risks and intervention strategies.She also oversees all investigative operations for UTP-H.
